ABOUT THIS COLLECTION
Ritual is a project earthed in objects made and found. Together our hands dipped and dyed, steamed and burned, crushed and stitched throughout the seasons. In Spring Bezoar was born, putting forth a new field to be sowed. We raked the fresh soil, searching for the thread that would tether our ideas to one another. Taking root, our new homes gifted us with ownership; permission to craft our everyday rituals. These small ceremonies became the inspiration; as we began to recognize the beauty in routine and the comfort of experiences shared. This collection yields future relics; objects for others to touch and cherish.
In Summer we cultivated plans and became resourceful. Discarded linens stripped and soaked became sponges for kitchen scraps; onion peels, berries, nuts, and petals. Combined with heat, the impressions give the fabric new use. Bandanas and aprons are panoplies preparing us for the daily grind. While the table cloths decorate a surface to feed hungry stomachs and grow friendships. In the mountains Oracles came from a cluttered table. Cutting and pasting with shears and brushes symbolize the transformation of words into pictures.
Autumn brought a stride. Although worn we shined with small victories and churred in the studio. We challenged ourselves with new techniques and honed the ones we knew. Sticks were collected, whittled and charred. Egg cartons became pulp pressed between a mold and deckle. Wax was immersed in boiling water and poured in vessels. Mirror/glass was encased by wooden design and embellishment. Our drawings were burned into silk and flooded with ink, with a strong pull our design appeared.
With our items made we prepped for a release. Last minute strings snipped and edges pressed. We watched the light flood the rooms, a stage for our relics. Helping hands brought creative vigor capturing what we have made with intentional snaps. Together with our words and designs we turn full circle, burning with excitement.
Here, we bring to you the fruits of our labor.
